Regarding Benson's life, he joined the Navy only a few days after his 18th birthday. Benson had served on the sea for some time after World War II. Leaving the army, he attended Loyola University. However, Benson took a break and became a book keeper for a car trading shop. With his agility and vision, Benson quickly promoted and bought himself a dealer. This is the source for him to pursue his passion for sports investment, to buy Saints and Pelicans. Tom Benson is a monument that has contributed greatly to the formation and development of sports in New Orleans, especially basketball and rugby. Benson was one of those who had an important impact on bringing Anthony Davis to the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2012 NBA Draft.
