Edgar Poe (full name Edgar Allan Poe) was born on January 19, 1809 in the city of Boston, Massachusetts in an artist family. The father, David Poe, died when his son Edgar was not born, while the mother Eliza died when Edgar Poe was only three years old. The orphan boy was adopted by John Allan, a wealthy tobacco dealer.
